Starting from the bottom, cleaning bathrooms and tidying up the factory, the young and enterprising Paul Van Doren quickly understood how the place where he worked functioned. Thanks to his commitment, he soon became responsible for the entire company. This company was called “Randy’s” and Paul became vice president at the age of only 34.

After years of working for other people, Paul Van Doren started making shoes on his own with his brother.

With the experience he had gained in the past, it wasn’t very difficult. It was during this period that the first Vans store took shape in California, in Anaheim to be exact. At the time, the store was called “The Van Doren Rubber Company.” The Vans logo was designed by Paul’s brother’s 13-year-old son.

The Vans store was an instant success. The comfort of the shoes produced by Paul and his brother was certainly an extraordinary innovation for the time. The waffle sole provided exceptional grip on the ground.
People were enthusiastic about the new Vans shoes created in California.

Vans sneakers have always been a must-have. On the first day of the official Vans store opening, 12 pairs of shoes flew off the shelves.
From that day on, the history of Vans sk8 was born.
The first men’s shoes created were the iconic Vans Authentic. Two years later, this model is still a top seller and is worn by millions of people around the world today.

The company was subsequently sold by its owners to large banks. Large amounts of capital and major marketing campaigns were launched during this period. However, Paul and his family remained in charge of the brand.

Shortly thereafter, Steve Caballero’s legendary Vans Cab Pro model was born. With the creation of the most iconic skate shoe ever, the brand resumed its rise to global skateboarding footwear superstardom. The Cab has been worn by generations of skaters who used the legendary Vans Steve Caballero for their sessions.

The Cab was only sold in a high-top version. So, in the 1990s, the first street skaters, who needed low-top shoes, decided to cut the Caballeros at the heel to make them more comfortable.
Thousands of shoes were decapitated by skaters, and Vans decided it was time to release the legendary Vans Half Cab, a mid-top version of the classic Cab.
