STEREO SKATEBOARDS THE BRAND STORY

The roots of Stereo Skateboards begin with one of the skaters who invented street skating in the 1980s. We are talking about Jason Lee, a legend who, in the 1980s, had a style that no one else had at the time. Jason Lee was a pro for Blind Skateboards, Mark Gonzales' brand distributed by Steve Rocco.

The years in the Blind team were very intense for Jason Lee. But after many successes, the Blind team, created in 1988, slowly died out with all the riders, such as Guy Mariano and Sanchez, leaving the brand for Girl Skateboards.

Shortly afterwards, Jason Lee also left the Blind team for good to start his own skateboard company with his friend and skater Chris ‘Dune’ Patras.
And so it was that in 1992, driven by the desire to create something new, ‘Stereo Skateboards’ was born.

The main factor that unites the two skater friends is music. Stereo was born following a very specific rhythm.

The rhythm followed by Stereo is music. In particular, jazz music has always been an integral and important factor for both Chris and Jason Lee.

JASON LEE AND CHRIS PATRAS TWO INSEPARABLE FRIENDS

Both Lee and Chris Patras are passionate about music, and the logo and graphics surrounding Stereo Skateboards all refer to music, with trumpets, musical notes and many other themes that associate rhythm with skateboarding.
In addition to music, Stereo also has a strong artistic and photographic influence. Jason Lee is one of the most renowned photographers and filmmakers in America.

His famous shots have travelled the world and Jason Lee has had several exhibitions over the last few decades. Mr Lee's artistic streak is very much present in Stereo skateboards.

In contrast, Cris Patras was from Illinois, where he spent his youth skating behind his house where a friend had a ramp. This is where Chris Patras' career began, and he later met skaters such as Mike Vallely and finally Jason Lee.
The two became close friends and soon after founded Stereo Skateboards and created the legendary “Arrow” logo.

THE BIRTH OF STEREO SKATEBOARDS

In 1992, there was a need to create a new, clean brand, and above all, one with skaters who were killing it. And so the brand was born with its first skaters, including Carl Shipman, Kyle Leeper, Jack Sabback, and Raimond Molinari.

At that time, enthusiasm was sky high and the brand was an instant success. Success also came in Europe. From Italy to England, everyone was skating on a Stereo skateboard. Shipman's style was incredible, very clean with technical tricks that won over skaters everywhere he went.

The Stereo Skateboards brand, with Jason and Chris, released two skate videos. The first was shot in 1994 and called ‘Visual Sound’, and the second in 1996, ‘Tincan Folklore’, featuring skaters such as Ethan Fowler, Mike Frazier and Greg Hunt.

The two videos were shot on 8mm film with an avant-garde musical style and black and white photography.

These two videos are revered by the skate community as two unmissable classics in the history of skateboarding. The cleanliness of the brand and the modern designs of the graphics and logos were making people forget the old illustrations and designs of the early 90s.

For four years, the team really caused a stir with their technical and fast skating.

But already in the second video in 1996, it was clear that Jason Lee was becoming increasingly distant. The Californian skater decided to leave skateboarding to devote himself to photography and music.

THE BRAND'S HALT AND RETURN IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM

The Stereo Skateboards brand took a break from 1996 to 2003. In 2003, the brand was revived and the two friends reunited to breathe new life into it. Production resumed and the team returned. With high-quality boards and clean designs, Stereo was always one step ahead of the rest.

In 2004, the video ‘Way Out East’ was released, marking the brand's return with Jason Lee in great shape and ready to continue the project with Chris Pastras. The video features big tricks from skaters such as Jason Lee, Chris Pastras, Clint Peterson, Benny Fairfax, Keegan Sauder and other special guests.

Today, the Stereo brand is more present than ever. The new team consists of pros such as Jordan Hoffart, John Lupfer and Yoshi Tanenbaum. The brand is still managed by the two founders and the old pro skaters who have always been at their side.
Today, the team is united and the brand has no intention of standing still. On the contrary, Stereo Skateboards is ready to offer you the highest quality and style.
