FOUNDATION SKATEBOARDS CO.

Foundation Skateboards is the legendary brand created by Tod Swank in the 1980s. This brand is one of the longest-running in the skateboarding business. Foundation Skateboards is the pure, hardcore spirit of skateboarding. Foundation is a king brand that won't let you down. Become part of the legend and try a Foundation board now.

FOUNDATION SKATEBOARDS THE BRAND HISTORY

Like its name, the Foundation brand has been a legendary brand for almost 30 years. In 2022, the American brand will celebrate three decades of skateboarding history.

The founding father of Foundation is Tod Swank, a famous pro skater from the 1980s. In 1989, with the help of Steve Rocco, the boss of World Industries, Tod managed to found his brand. And that's how Foundation Skateboards began to take shape.

In the early years, the first boards were released and the team began to take shape under the watchful eye of Tod Swank. In 1990, the first official video was released, called “Glam Boys on Wheels,” a very raw video featuring the first riders filming their first clips with Tod, and the birth of the brand began to take shape.

THE MOON STAR BRAND FROM THE 1980S TO TODAY

Excellent tricks but a bit of confusion in the video still leave a historical document about the company. The following year saw the release of the second video under World Industries' management of the brand.

The video is called “The Magic F” and, unlike the first one, we begin to see Tod's work in researching and strengthening his team of riders, which is enriched with important names. Legendary skaters such as Tony Briseno, Joshua Beagle, Jason Rotemeier, and Billy Bakker.

The first street tricks started to appear on rails and ledges. The way of doing street skating changed radically between 1990 and 1992.

Within two years, changes were made to skateboards. A turning point in skateboarding was approaching, bringing with it an evolution in the world of skateboarding. Skateboards had more nose and less concave. The tails were more contained and smaller than the boards of a few months earlier.

The trend change was rapid. In addition, smaller wheels were used in street skating. Wheels with a smaller diameter allowed for a different and much more technical style of street skating to develop.
This change and evolution in skateboarding in America was fully experienced by founder Tod Swank, who, increasingly involved in the project, decided that a major change was needed for Foundation Skateboards.

FROM WORLD INDUSTRIES TO TUMYETO

Tod Swank decided to leave Steve Rocco's distribution company and move to San Diego, where he immediately founded Tumyeto Distribution. Fondation Skateboard Company finally began its climb to success with new energy.
Tod Swank put all his energy into putting together a powerful team that would continue the brand's mission. And so, in 1992, the moment arrived for the video that launched Foundation to a higher level.

With “Cocktails” in 1992 and “Super Conductor Super Collider” in 1993, the Foundation team was one of the strongest in the United States.

If you watch Ron Creager skateboarding in 1992 and 1993, you'll realize the level of tricks that were already being done back then.
Creager was the absolute boss with his switch sessions, but Steve Olson, the legendary Heath Kirchart, Frank Hirata, and Josh Beagle also had great parts. Foundation is also the brand that introduced Steve Berra.

FOUNDATION SKATEBOARDS ENTERS THE NEW MILLENNIUM.

After 1993, other legendary skate videos followed. Over 15 videos from 1994 to today have immortalized dozens of skaters who have skated for the legendary American brand Foundation. Notable examples include “Duty Now for the Future” from 1997 with the incredible Brad Staba and many others.

Foundation proved itself to be the true hardcore punk brand. Real thugs in the street from 1997 to 2007. Then came the turn of pros such as Ethan Fowler, Corey Duffel, and Justin Strubing. Videos such as “Madness and Mayhem” set the trend, and Foundation became increasingly powerful and famous worldwide for its aggressive and fast skateboarding.

The peak came with the video “Cataclysmic Abyss.” The team, still with leaders such as Ethan Fowler and skaters such as Don Nguyen, continues to represent the brand. Today, Tod Swank's brand is still active and produces extreme technology products with a fixed theme in mind: “only skateboarding.”

FOUNDATION SKATEBOARDS CO. TODAY

Today, the team is made up of incredible pros such as Cole Wilson, Dakota Servold, Nick Merlino, Ryan Spencer, Aidan Campbell, Corey Glick, Dylan Witkin, Joey Ragali, and the legendary Corey Duffel, who is still going strong.

In short, we are talking about the super company Foundation and the legendary Tod Swank, the creator of the brand. Tod became famous in the 1980s for his innovative skateboarding and a street attitude that few had at the time, which allowed him to get where he is today.

Tod was immortalized back in 1986 by legendary Transworld Skateboarding photographer J. Grant Brittain in the iconic photo “The Push.”

The story goes that Grant Brittain saw the spot and was struck by the sun shining between the two bridges of the highway. He always went to have breakfast at a place nearby. One day, he decided he had to capture a skater in that spot where the sun provided a unique and unparalleled photo opportunity.

The skater immortalized was Tod Swank, and that photo became legendary. Today, the Foundation brand produces high-quality skateboards and clothing. Browse our online catalog and find the Foundation skateboard deck that's right for you.
Foundation logos have gone down in history as the legendary “Moon & Star” logo and the letter F for Foundation. These logos never lose their charm and are still best sellers around the world today.
