BASEPLATE ANGLES AND MOUNTING HOLES

The baseplate is the lower part of the trucks that holds the hanger and kingpin, the baseplate of the longboard truck can have various adjustments to the angle of the kingpin. There are always mounting holes in the baseplate.

The holes in the longboard truck can be 6 or even 8, with more holes you have the possibility to adjust the wheelbase a bit according to your needs.

HANGERS AND AXLE

The hanger is the whole part of the truck that allows steering, the hanger slips into the pivot cup and mounts through the kingpin along with the grommets, then being screwed in to give movement and make turns.

Inside the hanger is the iron tube called the axle where at the end the wheels with the bearings have to be inserted to be screwed in. The axle is always 8 mm in diameter but, there may be rare cases of 10 mm axle.

TRUCKS LONGBOARD TRADITIONAL KINGPIN TKP.

These longboard skate trucks have the same structure as the classic skate truck and are widely used on cruisers and for doing longboard freeriding. It may be that some downhill riders ride a TKP truck that at high speeds (high speeds) can be very stable, top for cruising carving.

By buying them of the right width and height they become very performant, changing the hardness of the rubbers can achieve optimal steering according to your needs with a standard kingpin.

REVERSE KINGPIN RKP TRUCKS.

Reverse longboard kingpin trucks are designed to be the most widely used in longboarding, the downhill longboard truck for maximum performance must be “RKP”. Top for downhill and freeride are precision trucks.

In these trucks the so called “baseplate angle” i.e. where the kingpin goes in unlike in classic trucks, in reverse kingpin models has a diagonal position in relation to the baseplate.

This type of truck is fundamental and allows for much more agile steering than classic “TPK “and there are many possibilities to increase the performance of your longboard skate truck, one of them is called “RAKE”.

WHAT IS LONGBOARD TRUCK RAKE .

Longboard truck rake is the ability in some inverted kingpin trucks called raked trucks to turn the hanger 180 degrees and change the position of the wheel relative to the asphalt.

This operation is also called hangerflip, in downhill longboards it can make a difference if you are looking for precision in every corner entry.

Changing the rake does not change the pivot angle of the baseplate.

A positively mounted rake will increase the height above the ground giving you more steering possibilities ,but penalizing stability.

A negative-mounted rake will have more stability and also give you more speed, but in turns it can be slow and less responsive by having a reduced ground clearance.

To change the performance of your reverse kingpin longboard truck you can change the hardness and shape of the rubbers by trying various hardnesses until you find the best one for you.

Also find the right adjustment of the tightness of the kingpin nut, if you do downhill it is recommended to tighten the rear truck more than the front to prevent wobbles at high speeds called speed wobbles in the jargon.

HIGH-SPEED WOBBLES “SPEED WOBBLES”.

When going down slopes and hills it is very easy to start shaking your trucks if they are not set more than right. Wrong settings can make you have bad crash experiences .

This is where all the parameters that need to be checked and adjusted come into play, first and foremost the rake and as a second equally important factor the pivot angle in the baseplate.

HOW TO MOUNT A LONGBOARD TRUCK.

There are four different ways to mount your trucks to your longboard depending on the model of longboard you buy.

If you buy a complete longboard the trucks will already be mounted depending on the model. In case you decide to customize your longboard you can choose to attach the truck in several different ways.

This is possible as long as the board can allow for other types of truck mounting.

TOP MOUNT.

This is the classic installation found on most longboards with a classic, flat shape.

DROPMOUNT / DROP THROUGH

The truck baseplate is mounted from the top of the board, this type of mounting brings less height above the ground giving more grip and speed.

It is widely used in downhill where more grip and less ground clearance is required.

DROPPED / LOWERED.

Some downhill longboards have a part in the center that is closer to the asphalt and are called dropped boards.

The trucks are mounted on the dropped shaped boards in the classic way, and it is already the mour riding style!
