Knowing how to mount the grip to your skateboard is synonymous with experience, we recommend all skaters to learn how to put on the grip yourself and mount your skateboard.

HOW A GRIPTAPE IS MADE

The grip sheet is simply sandpaper with an adhesive underneath, clearly it is not the sandpaper you find in hardware stores, but is a special paper made especially for skateboarding.

Like regular sandpaper, skate grip sheet is also made of silicon carbide. The grip is an essential part of your skateboard; it is like your second skin on the board.

Good sandpaper will make you perform tricks much easier. There are various sizes of sheet widths and lots of graphics.

Today’s sheets are very varied with graphics that have an all-around graphic assortment. From the most understated logo sheet to camouflage to the most colorful. You will have a huge choice to choose what you like best to customize your skateboard.

SKATEBOARD GRIP WIDTH

Sheets have various sizes, the traditional classic sheet is 9″ x 33″ big and you can mount it on all boards up to a size of 8.9″ except shaped or old school boards which are wider than classic popsicle skateboards.

If we want to mount a shaped it will be better to opt for a grip size of 10″ or 11″, with this width we will go to cover the whole surface.

WHEN CHANGING THE GRIPTAPE TO THE BOARD

The rule is that the grip is not changed, a board should normally be used its whole life with the first sheet mounted at the beginning. But this is not always the case so don’t worry.

Change the grip to your board whenever you want, to do a good job you have to disassemble the trucks from the board and take off all the old grip with patience. If you use a hair dryer you will get all the paper off sooner.

Once you have taken off the old grip put on the new one. To find out how to do this follow our tips on how to assemble a skateboard.

Alternatively if you have a dirty paper you can clean it with a cleaner. Remember that if you change the sandpaper to do a good job you have to disassemble your trucks. Avoid mounting the new grip on a used board with the trucks still attached, you will only do a bad job.

FINE GRIT OR THICK GRIT?

Brands differ in producing various finenesses of grit, as we described earlier brands such as Mob and Shake Junt have thicker grit and provide more grip to the shoes.

Clearly your shoes will tend to wear quickly.Jessup and Grizzly have classic medium/fine grits that for those who don’t like too much grip will definitely find advantage.

For technical tricks, flat skate and walls they are perfect.
Trying them both will give you a better understanding of which grip is best for you.

GRIP SKATE BLACK OR WITH GRAPHICS?

Which one is better is for you alone to say, black, colored or clear will not change your performance on the skateboard. Each sheet for sale guarantees you the best grip on your board.

You can also unleash your imagination and create unique designs by cutting out parts of the grip creating multiple combinations to create on your board.
You can also choose a clear griptape that makes your board graphics visible once applied.
