CREATURE SKATEBOARDS THE BRAND FROM THE GRAVE YARD

Creature skateboards was created by legendary skateboarder Darren Navarrette, who recently celebrated 25 years with the brand. Navarette’s story is one of transitions and halfpipes.

Skater Darren was born in Minneapolis in October 1976 where he grew up and spent his childhood, As soon as he started skating Navarette was immediately drawn to transitions and turns. He immediately began his career in half pipe where he quickly continued to improve to a pro level.

For a vert skater it has never been easy especially for Darren Navarrette. A pro skater who was passionate about vert never stopped giving back transitions even when vert skate was practically extinct in the 1990s. Very few people skated vert.

Navarrette has always skated with the greatest legends of the Californian vert. From Tony Hawk to Lance Mountain, Omar Hassan and many others who have a special relationship with Navarette of friendship and brotherhood.

Darren has always been respected for his high and out of the ordinary airs. In addition, Navarrette is a specialist with his kick flip melon in every sauce.

DARREN NAVARRETTE THE VERTICAL VAMPIRE

In California and the skateboarding world he was known and called darren navarette the vertical vampire. Navarette from an early age has always skated vert and one day in a competition with a lot of pros he gets noticed for his unique and natural style.

Very long hair and a heavy metal attitude have always been a must for Navarette. Dave Swift the Transworld skateboarding photographer thought he was a girl the first time he saw Navarette at a competition.

Navarette not only skate vert but also street. For Darren, skateboarding has always been 360 degrees since the beginning.

But he was the “vert vampire” and his mission has always been mainly to ride transitions. From there Navarette continued to skate and improve.

In 1994 he was proposed to launch his brand “Creature” with the collaboration of NHS under the direction of Lee Charron. The brand was born separate from the other NHS brands.

The idea was to create something really fresh and new that would break out of the usual canons of the early 1990s. When the brand was born it was a very dark time for skateboarding and at the time it was hard to pull up a company that worked.

The Creature skateboards project founded by Navarette already had a respectable team of legends like Jason Adams and Russ Pope. After only two years, the two team skaters who were friends with Navarette decided to leave the team and Creature suddenly.

No one knows why , but NHS decides to give a stop to the project but, Navarette continues to document the brand that still does not cease to exist. In 1996 the video “Heshers on the Run” was released and in 1997 it was time for “fiends” two monstrous videos with a very high level of skateboarding.

THE REBIRTH OF THE CREATURE SKATEBOARDS BRAND

In 2002 the brand was revived with the help of Lee Charron they reworked the Creature logo and all the graphics and in no time the brand was back to shining.

In fact, there is nothing shiny about Creature. The brand was born in the graveyard with horror-style graphics with monsters, vampires, dragons, splatter and violent graphics. Violent like the team’s style. 100% aggressive and ignorant skating.

In 2006 Navarette and his team come out with the video “born dead”. The video is spectacular with street and transition tricks by pros Partanen, Perkins, Ponts and Gravette.

Every pool and every handstand trembles as the Creature team passes by. Already after only three years, the brand is beginning to take off and find more and more acceptance in the skateboarding world.

Videos directed by Navarette and Lee Charron continue in 2007 and 2009 with “black metal” and “hash law.” In 2012, the video was released that established Creature as a powerful and strong leading brand in every aspect.

The “Creature CSFU” video is an incredible thing. The new skateboarding is cleared to the highest levels. With pros like Partenen, Gravette, Graham, Mallory, and Kimbel, the team seems fearless. Part aggressive where the pros without lingering smash everything.

In 2017 the Creature team finished second at the “king of the road”,invitation-only competition for super skateboard teams. The event was followed by the whole world and Creature was growing more and more.

CREATURE SKATEBOARDS TODAY WITH MILTON MARTINEZ AND COLLIN PROVOST

Today the team is incredible. Recently joining the team is Milton Martinez who was awarded best skater of the year by Thrasher magazine. Milton is the skater team rider from Argentina who has been showcased for his extreme tricks and bomb hill sessions.

In addition to Milton Martinez we find Chris Russel,David Gravette, Cody Lockwood, Jhon Gardner, Kevin Baekkel, Willis Kimbel, and Jimmy Wilkins .

Also recently joining the Creature horde is super player Collin Provost. Provost has an amazing skateboarding style and fits perfectly on the Creature team. We look forward to the brand’s next production to see what today’s team comes up with. It’s sure to be crazy tricks and borderline spots that are increasingly dangerous.
