The DVS Shoe Company was founded by legendary pro skater Tim Gavin and two close friends and brothers, Brian and Kevin Dunlap. The three began their adventure in the mid-90s.

The company’s primary mission in the early days was to stay focused on the skateboarding market, and right from the start, the entire team set to work on various designs that included unique shoes with exclusive features. DVS shoes were worn by many skateboarders, as well as surfers and snowboarders.

Toward the end of the 1990s, the excitement surrounding skateboarding was at an all-time high. Many skate brands had emerged, and DVS was part of this growth, which led Tim Gavin’s brand to expand exponentially across the globe.

THE BRAND’S RENAISSANCE AFTER THE GLOBAL CRISIS

The brand grew significantly during the early years of the new century, but in 2007 it faced the global crisis that affected retailers worldwide. Distribution channels were also in the red, and the entire business ground to a halt overnight.

DVS did not back down; despite the debt and the crisis, it managed to hold its ground and was able to gradually get back on its feet. In 2013, Podium ceased to exist, and the baton was passed to other major players who acquired the California-based company to bring it back to the top of a market that was slowly recovering.

The DVS brand was distributed from the very beginning by Podium Distribution, which brought the brand worldwide until 2013.

That year, the DVS brand launched a brand-new website, resumed shoe production, and began touring the world with its skate team, which contributed significantly to the brand’s resurgence following the global crisis that had left the California-based skate shoe company at the mercy of events for many years.
